Tanmaye Vyas

Founder of Tanmaye's Amazing space. Pioneer of Experiential Space Science Communication (Since 1986)

Our Guru, Shree Tanmaye Vyas is a visionary, pioneering force and the architect of the Space Gurukul of India, a living ecosystem dedicated to Space Science experiential learning. Shree Tanmaye Vyas has transformed science communication by moving away from conventional, screen-driven pedagogy into a non-digital, fully experiential model. His work bridges the gap between ancient Indian knowledge systems and modern astrophysics, creating a rare cultural-scientific continuum essential for a Viksit Bharat 2047.

The Experiential Model & Philosophy

Distinct from traditional science centers, Tanmaye Vyas sir has built a sensory-driven learning environment where knowledge is transferred through storytelling and deep conceptual engagement. He established India's first immersive Astronomy and Space Science Studio, a space that transforms abstract curiosity into a tangible intellectual experience. Shree Tanmaye Vyas has documented nearly all major astronomical phenomena from meteor showers to comet visits and solar /lunar eclipses to transits and occultations.

Resilience & Institutional Impact

His journey is defined by unparalleled resilience. From golden heights to foodless nights, through departmental raids, financial storms for over 20 relentless years, Tanmaye Vyas sir navigated extreme adversity, including 700+ legal battles. Despite these challenges, he remained steadfast in his mission to democratize science. His credibility is anchored in both grassroots impact and institutional trust, with his initiatives.

Key Contributions & Scale

• Large Scale Impact: Directly impacted over 2 lakh students and mentored 10,000+ teachers, fostering a sustainable scientific temper across generations. • Scientific Documentation: Maintained a lifelong documentation of celestial events, serving as a primary resource for students and enthusiasts. • Cultural Integration: Successfully integrated inherent part of Indian celestial narratives with modern Astronomy through deep-rooted Indian Scriptures. His initiative for bridging linguistic barriers is commendable. • Knowledge Transmission: Established a 'Gurukul' system where his disciples carry forward the legacy of astronomy learning ecosystems as a form of wisdom rather than mere information.

"Shree Tanmaye Vyas represents the spirit of "Aatmanirbhar Bharat's" space science education. By transforming his personal trials into a national asset, he has provided India with a unique blueprint for public astronomical literacy fragments. His work stands as a benchmark in the field of Astronomical scientific initiatives."

    Education:
    BSc (Hons.) Physics (2017-20)
    Legacy through Mentorship:
Like Vishwa, evolved from a learner to an experiential educator carrying forward the vision of Space Gurukul of India. Instrumental in expanding astronomy clubs, teacher training programs, and science festivals beyond Gujarat.
    Currently with TAS:
I have attended several workshops & conference on various fields of physics. Just after graduation I enrolled myself for TASC (Tanmaye's Amazing Space Commando) internship on September 2020 & I started diving into Astronomy with the guidance of Tanmaye sir. I held an astronomical event "मातृछाया बाल गृह" NGO in Jaipur (Raj.). (7th March, 2021) I bought a GSO 6″DOBSONIAN REFLECTOR TELESCOPE, 20th January 2021 and since the 700+ people have peaked from it at places like Jawaharlal Kala Kendra (JKK), Jaipur with DST (Rajasthan). Winter Solstice event with DST (Raj.) at Jantar Mantar (sundial making, time & position of sun, calculating earth's circumference, telescopic observation etc. on 21st December, 2021. On March equinox 2022, delivered a talk and explained relevant Jantar Mantar instruments. Mars-Jupiter conjunction with DST at JKK on 4th April Delivered a talk on honorarium basis for Nehru Planetarium on Jantar Mantar, Jaipur on World Heritage Day, 2022 Hosted a show for Lyrid meteor 2022 shower at Sambhar Lake with DST (Raj.)
  1. 1982-1992

Early encounter with an astronomy book from a Russian book fair sparked a lifelong pursuit. Began systematic sky observation with a 20×60 binocular in 1984. Actively contributed to the All-Gujarat Amateur Astronomers’ Meet at Shreyas Foundation, marking early community involvement.

  2. 1993-2000

Co-led and documented radio signals from the Shoemaker-Levy 9 impact on Jupiter. Observed and systematically documented Total Solar Eclipses, Comet Hale-Bopp, and plotted the historic long-period Comet Hyakutake with its rare ~100° long visible tail.

  3. 2001-2004

Facilitated 1,00,000+ telescopic observations, impacting 1.5 lakh+ individuals. Documented Transit of Venus and Mercury. Selected as West India Ambassador for the Cassini-Huygens mission (2004-2017), facilitating large-scale public understanding of planetary exploration.

  4. 2005-2010

Established the Rajpath Amateur Astronomers Group (RAAG). Created a sustained observational astronomy ecosystem at Van Chetna Kendra. Observed and documented the longest Total Solar Eclipse of the century from Wuhan, and reimagined urban corridors into large-scale telescope-based platforms attracting thousands.

  5. 2011-2015

Revived and led the Vedhshala Observatory, redefining a dormant institution into a center for continuous astronomical learning. Conferred the “Bade Dilwale” recognition by Red FM for advancing astronomy learning driven by public-interest.

  6. 2016-2020

Served as expert visiting faculty for Astronomy & Space Science at CEPT University. Featured in the “Inspiring People” series by Tata Motors (to watch, click here). Transformed Sabarmati Riverfront into a recurring public platform for observational astronomy, and established the ST@RT continuous learning platform.
